I am sitting here, snowed in, catching up on some interesting blogs I've recently come across, praying that I don't get tagged with this silly 5 things game that's going around (hint, hint).
My mother, who is visiting from Florida, just called me a "workaholic". I said "Mom, I'm watching a football game." (The Packers are up 3-0, and who cares.) But I guess she figures if I'm my laptop is open then I'm working. How quaint.
So I figured I'd ask. If you're reading this post before Christmas day (or your equivalent big holiday), do you consider yourself a workaholic?
Mom, I'm not a workaholic. I'm just reading.
Ok, so I'm checking my email and working on a web site while I'm reading. Big deal mom.

Well, my dad thinks I'm a workaholic, for sure.
He's a foot surgeon, spent the first 20 years of my life working 16 hour days, 6 days a week. And he thinks I am a workaholic.
To use his words: "Chris, if you were going to die today, you'd tell god 'Just one more day, please... I need to get this patch done before I go.'"
Well, yeah, I work a lot, but I love my work. Often it's hard for me to track where "online for fun" crosses over into "online for work."
For instance, I edit a daily group weblog for the Poynter Institute (http://www.poynter.org/column.asp?id=31), for which I end up writing half or more of the posts. My boss there offered me time off over the holidays, but I volunteered to keep posting because I find working on that blog energizing and fun.
And right now I'm making a big push to learn how to use LinkedIn effectively. That's definitely career-related, but I'm having fun with it and blogging the process on http://rightconversation.com.
Does that make me a workaholic, or just kinda geeky? Hmmmm...

I guess ite depends on the local culture. Where I live, all the days up to Christmas, including the Christmas Eve, are regular working days, and it's perfectly normal to work unless you've arranged a vacation in advance. We return to work after St. Steven's (depending when the weekends fall, of course, and are off for New Year (not New Year's Eve, mind you) and again for the Holy Three Kings. And that's a 90% Catholic country.
So no workaholic labelling here; it's more like you might be viewed as a slob if you *don't* work.
My vacation flight was cancelled last night. So what else am I supposed to be doing?
Ok Stan, and if you read this 30 seconds after I post it, you're really a workaholic. :???:
A workaholic? For the last year for sure and probably continuing as this thing gets started. But I was a lazy ass for long time, so I've got some catching up to do. :)
