In its second year of existence, registration for the
2009 SpringBoard Challenge is now open. The SpringBoard Challenge is a mini-business plan competition, open to Abilene students and residents and sponsored by local businesses and individuals. With a $10 entrance fee, contestants will get a shot at winning $40,000 in prize money in one of three categories: college students, community pre-revenue, and community post-revenue. Contestants must create a semi-formal business plan and give a pitch to the judges. As a participant of
last years contest, it was an excellent opportunity with a low entrance fee to pitch my business plan to West Texas business leaders.

I just received an announcement that Stan Gowisnock has been selected to be CEO of DST, a supply chain logistics company. Stan worked for me for several years and always wanted his own show. His customers were always the happiest and Stan consistently won the Porsche that we provided each year to the top sales person. He then became an entrepreneur and went through several formations and sales of companies. Stan is a great leader and proof that people of all talents can be entrepreneurs and that you can reach your goals of achievement, wealth, and influence if you really want to. Stan is a superb family man and a generous giver to good causes. I count Stan as number 26 CEO that worked for me before becoming a CEO. YOU CAN DO IT !!

Jim, thanks for your comments. Was happy to write about SpringBoard.
Abilene is a great city in which to start a company. The economy is stable relative to most U.S. cities. There is an intelligent, well qualified workforce, with excellent training/education resources. As a relative newcomer I am surprised to see such a widespread interest in innovation and investment in innovation.
One only has to attend a meeting of ReInvent Abilene to see the richness of ideas among memebers of the community.

Thanks for highlighting Springboard. The 2008 contest was a big winner and opened the entrepreneurship awareness in many who had never thought about starting their own company. Springboard recognizes and heightens the strong spirit of Abilene students and residents to become business and wealth builders. "Building your own business is an incredibly thrilling experience. The rate of learning and the sense of accomplishment is unmatched".
